What we do
A gutter system is only as good as its downspouts. We see the same three problems on almost every free-quote visit: downspouts that are too small for the roof they're draining, downspouts that dump water right against the foundation, and downspouts that got dented and never got straightened out.
We replace downspouts as standalone jobs, and we spec them to actually match the water they need to move. On mountain homes and homes with big roof planes, that usually means going from 2×3 to 3×4 downspouts and adding a drop or two you didn't have before.
Every downspout install includes a proper drain-away — extension, splash block, or kick-out — so the water ends up at least 4 feet from your foundation, not eroding your landscape mulch six inches away.

Why Colorado homes need better downspouts
Two things wreck downspouts in Colorado: hail and clay soil. Hail dents the daylights out of aluminum, and once a downspout is dented enough to restrict flow, it backs up into the gutter above every time it rains hard. Clay soil doesn't absorb water — it just moves it wherever gravity takes it, which is usually toward your foundation.
That's why we push for proper drain-away distance and kick-outs on any home with clay soil (basically all of the Front Range). It's a $40 upgrade on the invoice that saves foundation repairs measured in five figures.
